About Union Rotary

The Union Rotary Club is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the community and throughout the world. Our club meets weekly and participates in humanitarian, educational and cultural programs that positively impact people’s lives in the Township of Union, as well as the global community.

We purchase and distribute dictionaries to all third graders in Union; conduct the annual Marvin Orella Speech Contest at Union High School and award college scholarships to the top three winners; contribute to UHS Booster Association for various awards to UHS seniors and sponsor a Union Little League team.

This year, Club members collected non-perishable food to donate to Union’s Food Pantry, provided gently used coats for needy persons in October; collected gifts for underprivileged children through our annual Angel Tree project in December; donated to local charities including the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Circle of Life Children’s Hospice, Union Little League, the Arc of Union County, NJ Special Olympics, and the NJ Sharing Network. We collected gently used books and distributed them to area shelters to support a children’s literacy program.

This year Rotary raised $5,000 to be donated to the Union Fire Department toward their mobile training unit and gave $30,000 to Union Township toward the renovation of Rotary Park.

We helped support a pure water project in a poverty stricken area of Haiti, along with assisting a prosthesis project for underprivileged children who are missing a limb in Bangalore, India. Our club heeded the call for help when emergency rescue supplies were diminished due to world disasters including the earthquakes in Italy, volcano eruption in Chile, Tropical storm Jade in Madagascar by aiding the Shelterbox Project which provides tents and emergency supplies and potable water for people who are rendered homeless by these tragedies. When we found out about a very sick child who needed a canine companion, the members of the Union Rotary Club didn’t hesitate to reach into their own pockets to help.

Polio is on the verge of being eradicated in the world, existing only in a few remote pockets of the world because of Rotary’s efforts to create a polio-free world. Our club’s efforts will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation this year.

What is Rotary? Rotary is Humanity in motion. Rotary is ordinary people working together to make our community and the world a better place.
