Rotary - Your weekly Rotary minute - 20090902

After a brief hiatus your weekly Rotary minute has returned. I took some time of, like our other president, didn't make it to Martha's Vineyard though.

So the fall/last quarter is shaping up to be an exciting time. We have lots of activity locally and district wide.

Last week we had our first Club Assembly. We had brief but informative presentations from Dawn on her plans for our club and the Rotary foundation. We also got an update from from Norm on membership and some of the strategies adopted last year that we hope to enhance and continue this year.

This week we are supposed to have a classification presentation from one of our new members Donna Alexander. Please come and learn what makes drives Donna, both professionally and personally. These classification talks are important as we welcome our new members into the Rotary community and get to know them better.

Tomorrow is our first meeting of the month of August. This also means Summer is almost over. In two shakes it will be labor day and back to school. Where did the time go?

So Rotary business. Last week we had our own Melinda Middlebrooks speak to us on the benefits of bankruptcy. Her talk was very informative and gave us new perspectives on how bankruptcy can be almost thought of as a 'positive thing'. It certainly serves the purpose of helping ordinary people who have lost control over their finances through no fault of their own, the ability to 'reset' their lives and start over. Thank you Melinda.

Hello Everyone,

As I'm writing this a storm is racing across our area. This has been a challenging summer...
I've heard people say this may be due to an El Nino effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ni%C3%B1o)
(Any opinions/comments?)

OK Rotary business. Last we held our first board meeting. It was very successful and we have a framework for a full and productive year. Continue to watch this space....

** SPECIAL PRESENTATION **

Your weekly Rotary minute - 7/16/2009

Hi All,

I'm looking forward to seeing as many happy Rotarians as possible at tomorrow's meeting.

This week (16th) we will have a dynamic speaker, Maggie Doyne originally from Mendham who at the tender age of '18' and just out of high school started an orphanage half way around the world in Nepal. Come hear what inspired someone at such a young age to perform such a selfless act.
